Last night a DJ saved my life....
I was heading down a bottomless pit of self pity, victimization and sadness when a dear friend of mine said you need a hug and some yoga. Day 12, of my exploration almost didn't happen but the power of the mat was stronger than that of a glass of wine and mindless TV. I made my way to SoulShine Yoga studio in San Elijo Hills for a very special Friday night event. One of my favorite DJ's - DJ Bonzilla (out of San Clemente) was in town and performing at the studio that night; alongside Aminy (co-owner of SoulShine) who lead this sweaty, heart opening, 5th chakra opening, slow moving, get in your bones, feel it kind of class. The combination was superb. You know how you just come across things that fit, like cookies + cream and Batman + Robin, yoga + live music is like that. There is nothing like a class led while someone is actually creating the soundtrack as you play.
The space Aminy + Martina have created here is something truly special, the community that supports them and turns out for classes, events, socials is insane. Their members love them and anyone you talk to about SoulShine has only good things to say. It's idyllic of a studio you'd find in a little town with the large white, glass paned doors usually open to welcome you, beautiful hardwood floors, simple yet elegant displays and designs. Their name is perfect much like the light that shines through the windows into the room. Depending on the time of day you could be bathed in sunlight as you practice.
My night took a 180 degree turn from the day, feelings of hurt, sadness, disappoint were gone and I found a voice, my voice to speak up and protect myself. I was surrounded by love, and sometimes when you're able to open yourself up to it and receive, it can change everything. Last night a DJ saved my life and my soul shined a little brighter because of it.
Where will Day 13 take me??
