I have put on a LOT of events over the past 5 years and none of them took me nearly a week to download, process, even write about, like our recent event. On Saturday, May 20th a dream that I've wanted to see manifest -did just that. After being postponed for one thing or another - we were finally able to screen Dream, Girl and it was f*cking fantastic.
Our panel of San Diego's most prominent, powerful, beautiful, strong women sat tall and proud on the stage. Dropping words of wisdom, truth bombs and stories that not only filled our hearts, our minds but touched our souls.
You mean, you've travelled to that dark place too in order to find the light? You also cried on your kitchen floor as your babies slept not knowing what tomorrow was going to bring or how you would handle whatever was coming next?
My business is storytelling, creating space and loving on people and I do that by writing, by inviting and by sharing. Dream, Girl was a film that meant a lot to me and I thought its message could help others. I could not even fathomed the response we would get, the love that would pour in and the respect that would come with it.
Over the past five days, I've seen stories and comments online from those of you that attended - you shared, you poured out onto your Macbooks and onto Instagram and Facebook what this movie meant to you. How experiencing it with your daughters, your mothers, your girlfriends has created a dialogue and opened up communication. You shared how hearing other women who look like you - sound like you - go through the same things as you and made it to the other side; you find it inspiring and empowering.
You hashtag, #dreamgirl #communityovercompetition #womensmovement #trusttheprocess #love and you don't even realize that THAT energy, those simple words are sparking change.
This movie, this experience showed and continues to show me that WE all have access to the greatness this world, this Universe wants to give us. That we are all capable of manifesting our dreams, living our truth and fulfilling a purpose in this life. Whether it's something big like solving world hunger or disrupting a major industry or seemingly small like creating space for others to grow, listening, sharing our gifts - WE ALL HAVE A VOICE; and more than ever we are WILLING and READY to use it.
There is a shift happening. A movement has begun and women are stronger than ever. Our power is palpable and our beauty, real beauty not the photo shopped, mainstream beauty they want you to focus on, but the beauty that lies in our core, our soul that screams "I CAN DO THIS. I am here! I am ready to lead. I AM A LEADER" - that beauty of owning your power and/or taking it back for some of us. That is what the world needs more of. We need more of you.
Dream, Girl in my opinion is MORE than a movie, it's a gift from a place that we haven't yet named. It's from our future selves, our higher selves reminding us of where we're going and that when we get there, it's going to be one hell of a party.
Keep shining. Keep taking risk. Keep betting on YOU. You've got a whole community of support around you and we aren't going to let you fall.
I want to give one last HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and made this event amazing!
