Of course traveling to exotic islands in distant lands and spending hours upon hours lounging on white sands, indulging in native foods and flowing through asanas in foreign countries sounds like the ideal yoga retreat; but what if you can find all that and more in your own city? I've spent months traveling, researching and coordinating yoga retreats half-way around the world only to have people remind me what an amazing paradise I live in right here in San Diego. It's true, many of us forget just what's around us, the beautiful beaches, the amazing weather and the variety of cuisine that we have access too right here!
So, it's almost Summer and you're starting to get that itch that it's time for a little vacay! Well, forget the passport, forget the dreaded long flights ~ here's 3 reasons why YOU should consider an Urban Retreat; and if you happen to live in Southern California - I've got two happening this year for you to consider.
You hate jet-lag ~ why bother losing a day going and a day coming back of your vacation when you don't have too. Jet lag sucks, there's no way around it, but if you by pass it all together and stay local (aka same time zone) you don't have to worry about it. Urban retreats can be found in your neighborhood; sometimes in the country, by the beach or up in the mountains.
Don't worry about packing ~ to much that is. If you stay close to home you're bound to find whatever you 'think' you need near by. Although most retreats will have the extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, etc - the good thing is if you do by chance leave something really valuable at home, undone, left on, still burning you won't have to worry about the time difference or getting back past customs to make it right.
Put that money to proper use ~ Sure you can spend $1000s on that trip to Thailand, Bali even Greece but what if you could get all that and more (yoga, great food, culture, rest/relaxation, beautiful accommodations) for a fraction of the price. Most urban retreats cost about 1/3 of a full on retreat or holiday and although you may only spend 3-4 days you will have less to worry about by being closer to home, less travel time (airport stress) and less to recover from when it's time to get back to real-life.
